The Problem:
Los Angeles County is home to 4,618 homeless veterans. The good news is that there are now enough rental subsidies and supportive services to house all of LA's homeless veterans. All that is missing are landlords willing to rent to them.
The Solution:
Homes for Heroes! How it works: Landlords rent vacant units to previously homeless veterans and receive fair-market rent and the support of a network of service providers.
How Stephen Wise Temple is helping:
We ask that members of our community help make a veteran's new house feel like a home. From filling “welcome home” baskets with kitchen and houseware items during our semi-monthly packing sessions to actually furnishing apartments with beds and more essential items.
How you can help:
You can drop off donation items (housewares, kitchenware, hygiene items) year-round at Wise or make a financial contribution here, 100% of which will go towards purchasing items that our veterans need in their new, permanent homes. To make a contribution by check, make the check payable to “Stephen Wise Temple” and write “Homes for Heroes” in the memo line.
