The Problem:
Los Angeles County is home to nearly 5,000 homeless veterans. The good news is that there are now enough rental subsidies and supportive services to house all of LA's homeless veterans. Once moved in, they require furniture and basic necessities to make them feel welcome in their new homes.
The Solution:
Homes for Heroes! How it works: Landlords rent vacant units to previously homeless veterans and receive fair-market rent and the support of a network of service providers.
How Stephen Wise Temple is helping:
We ask that members of our community help by making contributions to help our volunteers purchase furniture and items for our veterans. These include beds and bedding, appliances, and toiletries often combined in welcome baskets.
How you can help:
You can drop off donation items (housewares, kitchenware, hygiene items) year-round at Wise or make a financial contribution here, 100% of which will go towards purchasing items that our veterans need in their new, permanent homes. To make a contribution by check, make the check payable to “Stephen Wise Temple” and write “Homes for Heroes” in the memo line.
