Thank you for your interest in being a Junior Literacy Leader (“JLL”) for our Summer 2024 Literacy Camp!

As a JLL, you will serve as a teaching assistant and mentor to K-6th grade students. Please refer to the 2024 JLL Volunteer Description for more detail on the JLL responsibilities. We will be offering our Summer Literacy Camp at 3 sites in Los Angeles - 2 in Bel-Air and 1 in West LA at Brockton Avenue Elementary School.

JLL Mandatory Training Dates:

• Sunday, June 9 (8:00 am - 4:30 pm)

Summer 2024 Program Dates (minimum of 2 weeks required):

• June 17-July 26 (M-F, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm, no program on June 19 and July 4)

All new JLLs are required to complete an interview with members of our staff and Teen Board. After you submit your application, we will reach out to schedule your interview.

The JLL Summer Contribution

Our teen volunteer program and our larger programs exist because of generous financial support from individuals and families such as yours. We suggest a $500 contribution for our volunteering opportunities this summer. Families making a contribution of at least $750 to support the Readers to Leaders program are exempt from this contribution for any number of teen participants. 

Your contribution not only sustains the program, but truly shows a familial commitment to healing the world and making a difference. We encourage our JLLs and their families to view this contribution as an opportunity to live important values, such as generosity, commitment to community and authentic relationship building. With that being said, we do not want financial hardship to be a limiting factor for any teen or family.
